Breachenomics - A new term for a new landscape. The untold costs of a significant cyber event
Synopsis
The increasing prevalence of cyber security breaches and significant security incidents in mainstream media underscores the growing threat landscape. Arguably, the comprehensive financial ramifications of a cyber breach are incalculable.
Over the preceding two years, I have conducted in-depth analysis of prominent data breaches, specifically examining their impact on share valuations and the consequent reputational damage sustained. This research framework I call “Breachenomics”.
The financial implications extend beyond immediate share price fluctuations. The internal impact on personnel involved, coupled with the erosion of trust amongst customers and suppliers, represents significant yet often underestimated costs.
Furthermore, the disclosure requirements within tender submissions, necessitating the acknowledgement of prior major cyber incidents, introduce protracted and potentially detrimental consequences for future business opportunities.
The long-term repercussions of a breach are multifaceted and often exceed initial estimations.
The findings of this analysis are both noteworthy and concerning.
This presentation is structured into two distinct phases: firstly, the quantifiable economic impacts, and secondly, the intangible costs. Both aspects are critical in comprehending the holistic and enduring consequences of a cyber security compromise for modern organisations.
Attendance will give you the tools and knowledge to be able to talk to key stakeholders in common language to drive influence and understanding of the real consequences of a breach.
